The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering degree gives the student
the opportunity to acquire a broad background in computer design, including
embedded control systems, real-time systems, telecommunication systems,
and software engineering. The curriculum includes courses in general
education, computer science, software engineering, and electrical engineering,
and features a capstone senior design. The program’s emphasis on real-time
embedded control systems and hardware/software interfaces provides
program graduates employment opportunities beyond graduates of traditional
computer Engineering Degree Programs, including positions in the aerospace
and defense industries.
Program Objectives
The goal of the Computer Engineering Degree Program is to produce
graduates who are successful practitioners of computer engineering.
The detailed objectives of the program are that our graduates:
Effectively analyze, design, and implement computer systems,
including embedded, real-time, and safety-critical computer systems.
Demonstrate professionalism in their work and grow professionally
through continued learning and involvement in professional activities.
Contribute to society by behaving ethically and responsibly.
Communicate effectively in oral, written, and newly developing
modes and media.
Assume a variety of roles in teams of diverse membership.
Team Projects
The program curriculum is designed to facilitate accomplishment of
these objectives by program graduates. The program includes significant
project work designed to prepare students to work as part of a team
on the development of complex systems involving both software and hardware.
It allows the student opportunities to develop capabilities in teamwork,
designing to requirements, and quality assurance techniques.
Small School Advantage
Students in small academic departments such as electrical engineering
at Embry-Riddle benefit from frequent one-to-one mentoring which gives
added support that can make the difference between success and failure.
Another advantage you have as a student in this department is access
to personalized advising through frequent contacts with faculty members
including your faculty advisor. Each of our faculty members brings
substantial experience in academic advising and career counseling to
our students. We encourage our students to take advantage of this benefit
and to get to know their advisor early in their stay with us. Academic
planning is the first step in career planning, a discipline that pays
dividends throughout one's engineering career. Our graduates tell us
that these benefits that we provide to all engineering students at
Embry Riddle, Prescott make this special among educational choices.
